Exotic Houseplant Care: The Must-Have Equipment You Need

Filed under: Reliable Info — Tags: — Online Shopper @ 1:19 pm

The beginner gardener who goes into her garden supply store—or even a large florist shop—is certainly going to be overwhelmed at the large number and variety of home garden tools she is going to find on sale for houseplant care purposes. There are literally hundreds of different kinds of dibbles and trowels, on the market. Almost all of them can be useful — but only a small number of them are essential for houseplant care.

If you are not scared off by the large number of different things available, the tendency is often to buy more than you need, or at least more than you are sure you need. Too many beginners have let themselves get carried away, only to find later on, to their dismay, that the only uses they could find for the expensive decorative pot they bought was as the base of a home-made lamp. We don’t want this to happen to you.

Actually, you can cultivate a home garden with no special equipment other than the pots you need. However, if you start off with the basic tools described below, you will be ready for every houseplant care eventuality. All the tools mentioned here are easily available in any five-and-ten or garden supply store. The beginner gardener can get everything she needs for less than a total of twenty dollars.

Houseplant Care Tools
There is no reason that you can’t get along adequately without buying some of the expensive tools found in the market. For example, you can use a kitchen fork to do the job of a cultivator, and you can use the teapot to water your houseplants. But these tools have been designed to fulfill the specific functions for which they are made, and as a result they are a great deal more efficient than their home-made substitutes. In addition, we believe that in the long run you will be happier with professionally-made tools because they last longer, make your work easier, and wear better.
Since most common houseplants are kept in relatively small pots, the most convenient trowel you can get is one that is less than 3″ at the top of the blade. They are cheap and easily available.
Bulb sprayers come in varying sizes and are used to wet the foliage of most plants. For houseplant care, you should buy the smallest kind. A replacement for the bulb sprayer, usable though not quite so efficient, is the atomizer such as the ones sold to spray medicine or perfume.

In conclusion, every indoor gardener should have a ball of light twine at hand to use for example in tying up climbing houseplants and in tying back the unruly plant.
